SENIOR CARE

SENIORS

Helping our Senior maintain dignity, their way of life, and impactful living in S.A.

1. Family First
What it means: Encourage families—not just the government—to take care of aging parents and grandparents.
Example: Offering tax breaks or financial support to family members who serve as caregivers, instead of relying only on government-run programs.

2. Local Help, Not Big Bureaucracy
What it means: Support churches, nonprofits, and local community groups in helping seniors, rather than creating massive federal programs.
Example: Backing faith-based and neighborhood organizations that deliver meals, provide transportation, or offer companionship for seniors.

3. Support for Aging in Place
What it means: Help seniors stay in their homes as long as possible, instead of pushing them into nursing homes.
Example: Offering home modification grants or tax credits to make houses safer (like installing grab bars or ramps).

4.  Promote Available Programs and Community Resources to assist Seniors.
Community Resources and Initiatives

• San Antonio Senior Centers: These centers offer classes on digital literacy, financial empowerment, and fraud prevention, helping seniors stay connected and informed.
• Silver Connect Hotline: A program that provides older adults with an opportunity to speak with trained volunteers, aiming to alleviate social isolation.
• Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP): This federal benefit program offers free or subsidized home broadband access and discounts on digital devices for eligible low-income seniors.

Like many seniors, loneliness is a growing concern among older adults. Nearly 60% of those aged 85 and over live alone, and many go days without meaningful social interaction. This isolation can lead to serious mental and physical health issues. We will connect seniors with resources and community to help address this issue and more!
